Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Skill Tree, an educational web application and game that builds AI fluency through lessons and games ("the Service"). You can use it on our website and inside AI assistants such as Claude. The Service is operated by JEL Labs LLC, a Texas limited liability company doing business as "Skill Tree" ("we," "us," or "our").

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use it on behalf of an organization. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Accounts

You can try part of the Service without an account. Keeping your progress, saving skills, and using the Service inside an AI assistant require a verified email address. You are responsible for the activity that occurs under your account and for keeping access to your email secure. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email, or, where we offer it, your Microsoft work or school account. There is no password. Notify us at [email protected] if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorization.

Play without an account is not saved to an account and can be lost if you clear your browser storage or switch devices.

3. What the Service is

Skill Tree is a training simulation and game. Lessons and exercises in the current worlds are graded by Skill Tree's own rules, not by an AI model. The people, companies, data, and scenarios in the lessons are fictional and exist for instructional purposes.

When you use Skill Tree inside an AI assistant such as Claude, or hand a skill you built to one, that assistant is operated by its provider and your use of it is governed by the provider's terms, not ours.

4. License to use the Service

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own learning. You may not resell, sublicense, or provide commercial access to the Service to third parties without our written permission.

5. Cost, and earlier purchases

Skill Tree is free to use. We no longer sell new World Unlocks or subscriptions.

Earlier versions of the Service sold a one-time World Unlock for some older worlds and a recurring subscription for worlds you could build. If you bought a World Unlock, it keeps working for the older worlds it covers for as long as we continue to offer them. If we retire those worlds, we will make reasonable efforts to tell you first. If you have an active subscription, contact [email protected] and we will cancel it and discuss a refund; we will not charge you again.

Payments for earlier purchases were processed by Stripe; we do not receive or store your full card number. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

6. Your content and your skills

You retain ownership of the answers, instructions, and skill files you create ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit Your Content solely to operate the Service. Skills you build are yours to export and use elsewhere. You are responsible for Your Content and must not submit anything unlawful, infringing, or that contains other people's confidential or personal information you are not entitled to share.

7. Organizations

An organization, such as your employer, can invite you to join it. If you accept, the organization's owners and admins can see the activity described in the Privacy Policy (section 3): for example which lessons you have finished, how many skills you have saved, and when you were last active. They cannot see your answers or the text of your skills. They see only what you do after you join, and you can leave the organization at any time, after which they no longer see your activity.

Your organization decides whom it invites and who may see its dashboard. Joining an organization does not change what you can use or what you pay.

8. AI output — no warranty of accuracy

Responses and other output produced by an AI assistant, including when you use Skill Tree inside one, are produced by automated AI models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for any particular purpose. Output is provided for training and learning. It is not professional, legal, financial, tax, or business advice, and you should not rely on it as such. You are responsible for reviewing any output before using it in the real world.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to: (a) use the Service for unlawful purposes; (b) attempt to bypass usage limits, access controls, or entitlement checks; (c) probe, scan, overload, or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure; (d) use automated means to extract data or exhaust usage; (e) reverse-engineer the Service except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law; or (f) use the Service to generate content that is illegal, harmful, or abusive. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that create excessive cost or risk.

10. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties to function, including Supabase (authentication and database), Render (hosting), Resend and Google (email delivery), Microsoft (optional work-account sign-in), Stripe (earlier purchases), and Anthropic (older features that call AI models). Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' terms where applicable. We are not responsible for third-party services, but we choose them with reasonable care.

11. Availability and changes

The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We may modify, suspend, add to, or discontinue any part of the Service, including individual worlds or features, at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to give notice of material changes that affect something you paid for.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE AND ALL OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) US $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of Your Content or your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Texas have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute not subject to other resolution, and you consent to venue there.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
